PHOTOS
The "Copperfield cruiser." Like a
rock star, he travels with a convoy. Here I'm in front of
2 of the 4 trucks backed up to the loading dock.
So you ask..."What are the
accommodations for this superstar of magic?" You are looking at
it. Most of the time DC and his crew sleep in these buses, unless they
are in a city for a longer period of time. Then they stay at a much
nicer hotel.
"What about Webster the
Duck?" Well...that's his accommodation right there. It's the
"duck hamper." He is taking it easy back there after a show.
Photo taken just moments after the 4 trucks have
pulled in. They arrived from New York City where the April 3rd
2001 CBS special "Tornado of Fire" was filmed
live...!
Standing in front of David Copperfield's International
Museum and Library of the Conjuring Arts located somewhere in a "secret"
location of the Nevada Desert.
The compound also serves primarily
as a warehouse which stores all the illusions and effects David has used during his entire
career. There are living quarters, research and rehearsal facility and of course the
enormous library.
Another view of the large complex which makes up
The International Museum and Library of the Conjuring Arts.
Trucks filled with illusions, lighting, scenery, and electrical
equipment getting ready to do a "load-in" which consists of backing each of the
four trucks up to the theater one at a time and unloading the cargo.
Here is looking at
you...."the eyes of David
Copperfield." David tours with a company of 38 people, plus local stagehands and security
which can add up to 40 and 100 people when playing overseas.
Pictured here are 3 crew buses and four 48-foot
semi-trucks that are part of this large illusion show. It takes a total of 9 hours to
unload and set-up the show in each city.
After the final show, it's time to do what's
called a "load out"...taking down illusions, packing them into crates and
loading them onto these trucks. It takes about 3 hours to break down and repack the show.
And here are the proud parents of David Copperfield. Mr.
& Mrs. Hyman and Rebecca Kotkin. This photo was taken
inside of MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas while they were visiting David
during their vacation. They are often invited along when DC is on the
road.
